A variety of my paintings are for sale
in this group: some figurative, some
still life, done in the studio...
But many of them, you'll see,
are smaller works that were done
outside in a relatively short period
of time. Called painting 'en plein air',
there is something special
about a piece painted this way:
Light changes rapidly. You have little
time to get what you want to say said.
Sometimes there are technical errors
in the rush and excitement of painting swiftly.
But you don't care...
Everything you know comes
rushing up through your fingers without
thinking. There is a freshness and sparkle
that is rarely captured in the studio.
See if you can see it!
Faces, Figures, Gestures-
Painting people is always
interesting and always a challenge.
The desire for a quick likeness can be,
for me, overwhelming. Yes, it is important
that it look like the person or animal.
But, it is also important that it be
a good & interesting painting - in its composition,
draftsmanship, values, color, and brushwork.
All these things are vital to keeping
a work alive and fresh. I may not always
achieve this but I hope for an accurate
portrayal that will be cherished by the owner.
What is it about bodies of water?
Often I like to paint a larger piece
that envelops me in the feeling
of being on the water, by the water...
the light & color, the smells, the time of year...
Other times it is great to do a smaller
painting 'en plein air'...outside, often with
other artists, quickly recording all there is
that is important to me about a place.
So here in this archive are some of these
from the past.
Enjoy!
What could be more fun than
setting up something yummy,
lighting it just so, getting your paints out,
painting it, then getting to gobble it up?
Well, not all in this archive is food,
but I have had shows with this theme
and folks just bought them up.
Wonder why that is?
Enjoy!
